Record of Lodoss War

Record of Lodoss war (ロードス島戦記, Rōdosu tō senki) began as an idea for a fantasy roleplay game by Ryo Mizuno and progressed further into becoming a manga and anime series, as well as many variations of video and PC games. The story line varies through each series; however, the plot remains the same in that there are several party members going forth through danger on a specific quest.

Replays

With the help of Group SNE, a new genre of novel was brought about called replay. Replays are role playing game logs composed into a single form as commonplace speech. Record of Lodoss War was the first replay to be and followed the same guidelines and roles as Dungeons and Dragons. The creator, Ryo Mizuno, had been a “Dungeon Master” at the time of the replays creation. Replay continued to have an oncoming source of popularity and many of the characters in replays have been reproduced in anime. Deedlit of Record of Lodoss War is an example of this. There were three party systems created as replays, “Record of Lodoss War – Parn’s party”, “Record of Lodoss War – Orson’s party” and “Record of Lodoss War – Spark’s party”. All of which were based on the system of Dungeons and Dragons, save for the last which had its own system called “Record of Lodoss War Companion”.

The owners of Dungeons and Dragons, at the time Tactical Studies Rules (TSR), had declined the use of the setting for Record of Lodoss War because of the previous agreements set by management and the common belief that the profit would be minimal.
