Isuzu Sohma

Isuzu Sohma is a fictional character used in Fruits Basket created by Natsuki Takuya. She only appears in the manga. Her nickname Rin, is from an alternate reading of her name in kanji;in addition it means suzu. "Suzu" means small bell in japenese and it can be an onomatopeia for the sound a bell makes. She is the horse of the zodiac and because of her constant illness, she changes more often than the other zodiac members.

Backround

  When Isuzu was born, her parents seemed to be like any other parents;caring and affectionate. One day though, Rin asked her parents why they were so happy even though Rin was possessed by a spirit. That question led to the separation of her family. During this time, she was abused and mistreated so much she ended up in a hospital. Because of this abuse, Rin hates hospitals and tries to escape before she is allowed to leave. Kagura and her family had decided to take Isuzu in as a family member.
  Rin is one of those people who stand up to Akito and yet is still scared of him. She isolates herself except to Hiro, Haru, Kagura, and her mother. These four people were the only ones who visited her in the hospital. 
   Rin is now currently residing in Kagura's house. She suffers from stomach ulcers and eats very little, due to stress and psychological trauma. She hates eating in front of people excluding Haru and later, Tohru Honda. 

Relationship with Haru

   When Yuki was little, he would be isolated in a small room. Akito ordered no one to go in and visit him. Haru and Rin would sneak in just to see him. However, Rin could not admit that she loves Haru; it is forbidden. Whenever Haru came to see Yuki, Rin would sit by the door. She always makes up an excuse that would have them leave. Yuki than realized that Rin did that to protect Haru so he wouldn't get caught. 
    When Rin was in the hospital, Haru would visit her regularly. Rin first hated him coming but then got used to it. Later they fell in love and went on dates. Soon later Akito found out about them dating and in his fury (possibly triggered by how similar Rin's long black hair was to the hair of Ren; Akito's cruel mother) he pushed her out of a window. Hiro who was walking past the door was the only witness. Because Rin worried that Haru would get hurt, she told Hiro to not tell anyone about the true thing that happened. Isuzu went to find a way to break the curse for Haru's happiness and freedom. She soon became ill again. Haru tried to visit her but she threated him by swinging IV's at him. They didn't communicate but Haru tries to see her as often as he can.
    Ren Sohma;Akito's mother, soon tricked Rin that there was a box that would break the curse but was caught by Akito. Akito forces her in the cat's room and Akito chopped off her hair. She is freed by Kureno Sohma and Hiro tells Haru the truth about that day when Rin was pushed out an window. Rin is hospitalized but she leaves in a daze. She is then found by Haru. He then takes her to Kazuma Sohma's house to recover and she has been there ever since.
