The Ace Attorney Series (More commonly known as Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice) (逆転裁判 Gyakuten Saiban) is a video game series. It currently has four games on the market, the first three games feature Phoenix Wright (成歩堂 龍一 Naruhodō Ryūichi) and is replaced in the fourth game by Apollo Justice (王泥喜法介 Housuke Odoroki).
The series follows the life of a rookie defense attorney (a lawyer) as he takes several cases with a wide array of characters. Despite what most people think, many of the cases are 'deep' and were well thought of. During the case the player is to visit crime scenes, find clues, speak to people related to the crime all before a trial begins. During a trial you have to cross-examine the testifying witness, who are often lying and the player must present a piece of evidence to prove their false witness. Doing so will get you nearer to the truth. There are also some traditional puzzles to be solved as well.
The first three games were originally released on Nintendo's GameBoy Advance in Japan only. By 2005, the first game was remade for the Nintendo DS and was called Gyakuten Saiban: Yomigaeru Gyakuten (逆転裁判 蘇る逆転). The remade also added a fifth case that wasn't present in the original. The remade was also lisenced and made it to America and various other places of the world, the first game in America became known as Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Eventually the other two games were remade and also came to other parts of the world. By the release of the second remade game, 'Ace Attorney' became the American's name for the series which proved helpful with the making of Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice.
The series has proved to be very popular, spawning various manga works, figures, fan books and various other things.
