Howl's Moving Castle (ハウルの動く城, Hauru no Ugoku Shiro) is a 2004 anime film written and produced by Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli. The film is based on the fantasy story of the same name, written by Diana Wynne Jones. It was premiered on September 5th, 2004 and released in Japanese theatres on November 20th, 2004. It is one of the most financially successful Japanese films in history, as it recieved a gross $231,710,455 with its worldwide release.
The protagonist is a young woman named Sophie who works in a hat shop, and has her life changed by a chance meeting with the mysterious wizard Howl. When the infamous Witch of the Waste places a curse on the girl, Sophie ends up living with Howl and trying to find her new place in a quickly changing world.

Calcifer: Once a powerful demon, this now tiny flame is the force that holds the house together and gives Howl his power.
Witch of the Waste: An banished old witch who seeks to win Howl's heart. She is responsible for the curse upon Sophie.
Markl: The young apprentice of the great wizard Howl.
