Introduction

The fifth episode of One Piece made it's premiere on the Japanese television station Fuji TV with the title Mysterious Power! Pirate Clown Captain Buggy!.

It opens with a brief introduction as all One Piece episodes do, with the voice of the narrator repeating the following:

Wealth, fame, power. The man who had obtained everything in this world, the Pirate King, Gold Roger. His final words that he said at his execution sent people to the seas. ‘My wealth and treasure? If you want it, I’ll let you have it. Look for it! I left in all in that place!’

Now men, chasing their dreams, sailed toward the Grand Line. The world now enters the Great Age of Pirates!

The first series opening them, “We Are” by Hiroshi Kitadani, then begins.

Summary

Part A

As the orange-haired girl runs from the Pirate, Luffy falls from the sky between the pirates and the girl. The orange-haired girl refers to Luffy as “boss”, and the pirates come after Luffy. One of them knocks off his hat, and Luffy defeats the three pirates with a Gomu Gomu no Pistol. The orange-haired gril came down from a rooftop and introduced herself as Nami, a pirate theft. Luffy, uninterested, walked away, until Nami offered him food.

Meanwhile, Buggy was angry with one of his crew, and appeared to strangle him without moving from several yards away.

Luffy sat with Nami and ate as she explained that she wants to earn one hundred million beri. She then says that she is a navigator, but refuses to join Luffy when she learns that he is a pirate. She says that she hates pirates and only likes money and oranges. Outside, pirates are still looking for her, so she tells Luffy that if she goes with her to see Buggy while tied up, she’d join him.

While Buggy was yelling at his crew, Nami walks up with Luffy and says that he was the one who stole the map. She says she had a fight with her boss and wanted to give it back, and asks to join the crew. Buggy gladly accepts the offer. Luffy is put in a cage, confused, and a party is thrown in Nami’s honor, but Nami was just planning to take back the map while the pirates were drunk. From his cage, Luffy was attempting to stretch out and get some food. As part of the celebration, the crew got out a large cannon with a strange cannonball and fired it at the town, making a huge explosion in town.

Zoro, seeing the explosion, asks the pirates what it was, and the three pirates he has subdued called it the Buggy Bomb. Buggy says he will rule the Grand Line with it, but Luffy says that it is he who will rule the Grand Line. Buggy offers to let Nami blow up Luffy with the Buggy Bomb as a test of loyalty, but she hesitates for a minute.

Part B

Nami is still hesitating, and Luffy criticizes her for her shaking hands and says that she should be prepared to risk her own life she is she is going to do something. A pirate takes the match from her, and Nami hits him with a pole she puts together from three small sticks she was carrying. She says that she will never become like the pirates who took the life of the person she loved most, and Luffy notices the cannon was lit. Nami stops the cannon by grabbing the lit fuse and burning her hands. Pirates attack her and Zoro shows up in the nick of time to block them all. Zoro and Luffy talk casually, and everyone else is shocked that Luffy’s comrade is the pirate hunter Zoro. Buggy says he’ll kill Zoro, but Zoro says if he tries it he will die. The two face down and Buggy charges. Zoro slices him into pieces, but there is no blood. Buggy’s crew laughs and Buggy gets back up, stabbing Zoro from behind with a knife. One of Buggy’s diced up limbs floats in the air, and Buggy reveals that he is a Splitting Man as a result of eating the Wara Wara no Mi. As such, he can’t be killed by a sword. Luffy calls him a monster, ironically. The crowd of pirates cheers, and Luffy, Zoro and Nami look fearful. Luffy calls Buggy a coward with a big red nose, which appears to be Buggy’s sensitive spot. He goes to stab Luffy like he did Zoro, but Luffy bites the knife, stopping it. He tells Buggy that he will kick his ass, and tells Zoro to run. Zoro quickly runs passed Buggy while slicing at him and turns the cannon toward Buggy. Zoro tells Nami to light it and Buggy panics as it fires.
