The Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (GITS: SAC) is a futuristic police thriller about a secret government team, Section 9 as they are called, who are called upon by the Prime Minister of Japan to deal with terrorristic threats. The GITS: SAC first GIG is set in the year 2030. The team of Section 9: It's boss, Daisuke Aramaki, commands the team led by "The Major," Motoko Kusenagi; along with team members, Batou, Cyto, Togusa, and Ishikawa, along with a motley of futuristic cute spider-like tanks called Tachikomas.
One of the reoccurring themes is the theme of individuality and its relation to the Standalone Complex - which is a phenomenon where after two people link, their individuality is erased, and each has characteristics of the other; or copies without an original.
The Major
Although the Major is the main character of the series, little is known about her past.
