Introduction

The third episode of One Piece made its premiere on November 24, 1999 on the Japanese television station Fuji TV with the title Morgan vs. Luffy! Who's This Beautiful Young Girl?

It opens with a brief introduction as all One Piece episodes do, with the voice of the narrator repeating the following:

Wealth, fame, power. The man who had obtained everything in this world, the Pirate King, Gold Roger. His final words that he said at his execution sent people to the seas. ‘My wealth and treasure? If you want it, I’ll let you have it. Look for it! I left in all in that place!’

Now men, chasing their dreams, sailed toward the Grand Line. The world now enters the Great Age of Pirates!

The first series opening theme, “We Are” by Hiroshi Kitadani, then begins.

Summary

Part A

Roronoa Zoro, tied up against a post in the courtyard of the Marine base, is targeted by the Marine firing squad. Just as they fire their rifles, Luffy falls from the sky and the bullets bounce off of him and back toward the Marines. Luffy gives Zoro his three swords under the agreement that Zoro will be joining his crew afterwards. The Marines charge, swords in hand, but are all countered by Zoro, who tells Luffy that it his only goal to become the greatest swordsman in the world, and says he will kill Luffy if he ever gets in his way. After Luffy pounds away the soldiers, he directly attacks Captain Morgan, and easily beats him around. Helmeppo appears, holding a pistol to Coby's head and demands Luffy stop, and when Luffy intervenes, Morgan tries to strike him, missing his head my millimeters after Zoro blocks his strike. Zoro collapses immediately after Morgan is defeated with Luffy's next hit.

The orange-haired girl is next seen in the Marine base, taking a map from a chest.

Part B

At the town bar from earlier on, Luffy and Zoro converse about being Pirates, but Zoro is unimpressed with Luffy's current state of affairs. Luffy says that they will be travelling to the Grand Line and picking up comrades along the way. Coby tells of the terrors of the Grand Line, and that One Piece lies at its end. The Marines then enter the bar and thank Luffy for stopping Morgan, and in exchange, say they will let Luffy get away before they retaliate against the pirates. Coby, who is not planning on going, does not know what to say. Luffy tells Coby's story of being aboard a Alvida's pirate ship for two years, and Coby punches Luffy's face, only to be pummeled by Luffy. Zoro grabs Luffy and takes him out, but Coby got the point that Luffy did that to help make sure the Marines did not suspect that he was with the pirates. He stands up and asks to be a member of the Marines. After some debate, he is accepted.

The orange-haired girl is again seen with the map, with the name "Captain Buggy" written on it next to a clown-like Jolly Roger.

Luffy and Zoro set sail, with a full salute from the Marines.
