Plot

Shortly after the turn of the millennium, just passed 1000AD, the Vikings are prowling the seas of the Atlantic, and feared across northern Europe. Vinland Saga follows the tail of Thorfinn. As a young boy Thorfinn's father Thors was slain by a group of Vikings-for-hire after being set up by the military of a country he had abandoned. Seeing his own father's death, Thorfinn joins the crew of Vikings responsible for the murder of his father, and travels along with them becoming a remarkable warrior who's only goal is to defeat Askeladd, the leader of his crew, and the man responsible for his father's death.

Chararacters

Thorfinn - The son of Thors, born in a small village in Iceland. As a young boy he stowed away on a warship his father headed, only to see his father murdered. Gone wild with anger, he is determined to avenge his father's death by slaying Askeladd, the leader of the Vikings who killed his father. He is a young adult with blond hair, who wields twin blades, passed down to him by as father.

Askeladd - The leader of the Vikings of whom Thorfinn is a part, and the man responsible for the death of Thors. He is an exceptional warrior and commands a large crew of Vikings. He is middle-aged, but apparently at the peak of his strength. Years before the story takes place, he is hired by the Jomsvikings of Jomsborg to kill Thors, who had fled from the battlefield 15 years prior. Having countered Thors in a blockade, the two men dueled, with Thors being the victor. Askeladd then had his archers fire at Thors, killing him. Since then he has taken Thorfinn aboard his crew.

Thors - "The Troll of Jom", is a warrior from Jomsborg, who abandoned the battlefield after seeing the birth of his daughter. He fled to Iceland where he and his wife had Thorfinn. After a warship from Jomsborg arrives at his village, he is told that he is to come to a battle and his abandonment would be forgiven, or that the village would be attacked. Thors accepted, not knowing that the Jomsvikings had hired a mercenary group led by Askeladd to kill Thors. Fighting Askeladd, Thors won the duel, but fell to Askeladd's archers.
